Educational Assessment Services:
What is the purpose of an assessment?
A formal assessment can be beneficial or necessary for many different reasons. These assessments can help identify learning difficulties, cognitive impairments, attention al issues, and other factors that could impact an individual’s educational or vocational pursuits in life. Psycho-educational assessments are commonly completed with school-age children and adolescents. Many adults also consider having an assessment if they are experiencing difficulties with meeting the demands in their educational or vocational pursuits.
Why might parents want a formal assessment for their child?
Identify any learning needs or potential learning disability
Identify any underlying behavioral diagnoses
Determine level of intellectual functioning
Determine need for educational program planning and supports at school
Determine areas that may require growth and what supports could help foster the growth

Determine level of cognitive functioning
Determine if potential learning disability persisted from childhood
Determine any underlying cognitive issues causing challenges in functioning
Who should be assessed?
Any student struggling with academics
Any student who reports being bored at school
Any student who is suspected of having gaps in their learning
Any child who appears anxious and withdrawn from their peers
Any child who exhibits challenging behavior both at home and at school

What does the process entail?
An initial free 15-minute consultation to determine if an assessment is warranted, cost, and what to expect
An initial 1-hour meeting with a psychologist to identify which assessments would be utilized, gather background information and history, and presenting concerns
The psychologist will conduct the appropriate assessments for the client which could include cognitive, academic, and behavioural. This process is comprehensive and could take multiple sessions to complete.
Scoring. At this point in the assessment process, the psychologist will score all the assessments, review any history and pertinent information, and generate a report based on the findings
Final debrief to discuss assessment results
What is the cost?
The cost of psycho educational assessment varies based on the number of assessment tools completed and which measures are used.
The cost would be provided during the free 15-minute consultation once the tools have been decided
These assessments may be covered in whole or in part by your employee health benefits plan or through other health insurance or extended health care coverage
